The management of Barcelona has made a highly unexpected decision. From next season, Xavi will no longer be the head coach of the team.
According to RAC1 and other Catalan media, club president Joan Laporta and other board members were angered by Xavi's recent comments about the club's financial difficulties preventing them from securing top transfers and, consequently, competing for trophies.
AS reports that Laporta has already instructed the sports department to search for a new head coach.
In late January, following a 3-5 defeat to Villarreal, Xavi announced at a press conference that he would leave the team at the end of the season. However, after a series of positive results, the club's management convinced him to at least fulfill his contract, which expires in the summer of 2025. This was announced at a special press conference.
Yesterday, Barcelona defeated Almeria (2-0) in the 36th round of La Liga. With 79 points, they are in second place, four points ahead of Girona.
