The leader of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, praised Kenya for its work in getting ready to share the hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN). He also confirmed that Kenya will still host the event, despite some rumors saying otherwise.
While visiting Kasarani and Nyayo Stadiums, Motsepe cleared up the rumors that Rwanda would replace Kenya. He told fans and people involved in the event that everything is going as planned. "I am even more confident about Kenya after seeing the progress. The next time I visit Kenya, it will be for the CHAN tournament," Motsepe said, promising a very successful event.
Kenya Pulls Out All the Stops for CHAN 2024
President William Ruto of Kenya, with whom Motsepe had already met, reaffirmed the government's dedication to making the event a success. Nyayo Stadium and Moi Sports Centre Kasarani renovations are apparently proceeding according to schedule. In order to comply with international standards, training facilities like as Ulinzi Sports Complex, Police Sacco Stadium, and Kirigiti Stadium in Kiambu are also receiving major renovations.
“We are sparing no effort to deliver a historic CHAN tournament,” Ruto affirmed in a statement.
CAF Delegation and Kenyan Officials Align for Success
Motsepe was accompanied by CAF Fourth Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya, Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba, and other CAF representatives. The Kenyan delegation included FKF President Hussein Mohamed, Vice-President McDonald Mariga, and CHAN/AFCON Head of Secretariat Mike Rabar, demonstrating a united front for the upcoming event.
The 2024 CHAN tournament will be the eighth and third time hosted in the CECAFA Zone, after Sudan in 2011 and Rwanda in 2016. With Motsepe's support and Kenya's swift growth, excitement is growing for a competition that promises to establish new standards in African football.
