Liverpool set to lose Gakpo! Forward rejects Tottenham and chooses new club
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has decided to continue his career at Manchester City. According to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein, all parties have already begun negotiations to agree the terms of the deal.
The 27-year-old Dutchman has turned down a potential move to Tottenham and wants to join City at the Etihad. The club's interest in the player has been known since 24 August, and talks have now entered an active stage.
A key factor is that Liverpool are close to reaching an agreement for the transfer of PSG winger Bradley Barcola. This allows the Merseyside club to consider selling Gakpo while simultaneously strengthening their attack with another player.
Manchester City have already parted ways with Savinho and Omar Marmoush this summer, with both players joining Tottenham. In addition, the English club have agreed a €40 million deal to sign winger Allan Elias from Palmeiras.
Gakpo has made 180 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 50 goals and providing 23 assists. In the 2024/25 season, the Dutchman helped the team win the Premier League, scoring 18 goals and registering seven assists in all competitions.
