Surprise move. Manchester United target star defender
Manchester United have unexpectedly shown interest in Aston Villa left-back Ian Maatsen. According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, the English club have already made an enquiry regarding a possible move for the 24-year-old Dutchman.
Strengthening the left side of defence has become one of United's priorities ahead of the summer transfer window closing. The club's hierarchy are concerned about whether Luke Shaw will be able to cope with a demanding schedule, particularly following the Red Devils' return to European competition.
The club's main target remains Newcastle's Lewis Hall, although a move for him currently appears almost impossible. Newcastle have no intention of selling the defender after losing several key players. At the same time, United have already secured Hall's approval and could return to his situation in the future.
For now, it remains unclear whether Manchester United want to complete a permanent transfer for Maatsen or would prefer a loan deal. There is also no information regarding Aston Villa's willingness to part ways with the defender. Negotiations could intensify during the final days of the transfer window.
