Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola was extremely unhappy with the organisation of substitutions during the match against Nottingham Forest. The second-round Premier League encounter ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw.
After the final whistle, the Spanish coach singled out the fourth official's performance, accusing him of working too slowly during substitutions.
“A professional fourth official cannot take three minutes over substitutions. I was very angry because we didn't have time to make the change at the previous stoppage. Before the throw-in, we said: let's do it now. But I don't know how to explain why it took an eternity,” Iraola said.
Iraola stressed that the delay could have affected the course of the game in the closing stages. At 2-2, it was important for both teams to make the most efficient use of every stoppage in play.
Liverpool and Nottingham Forest ultimately shared the points, with the work of the officiating team during substitutions becoming the main talking point for Iraola after the match.
It is worth noting that under the Spaniard, the Reds have started the season with two consecutive 2-2 draws. On the opening matchday, Liverpool shared the points with Newcastle.
