Mohammed Kudus Returns from Long-Term Injury Layoff in Tottenham’s Defeat to Newcastle
Mohammed Kudus has returned to competitive action after a lengthy spell on the sidelines, coming off the bench during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 Premier League defeat to Newcastle United.
The Ghana international had been out for 237 days after suffering a quadriceps injury in Tottenham’s match against Sunderland on January 4.
Kudus was initially expected to return after the March international break, but a setback in April extended his absence and saw him miss 25 matches for Tottenham. The injury also ruled him out of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
The 26-year-old entered the game in the 68th minute, replacing Mathys Tel as Spurs looked for a way back into the contest.
However, his return could not inspire a comeback. Newcastle had taken the lead through Anthony Elanga in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa doubled the visitors’ advantage four minutes after Kudus came on.
The defeat leaves Tottenham without a win, point or goal from their opening two Premier League matches, having conceded five goals in the process.
