The British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, attended the Southampton versus Swansea match (2-1). Hailing from Southampton, the head of government supports his hometown team and visited "St. Mary's" for the first time this season after the team's relegation to the Championship.

Post-match, the spotlight was on Southampton's manager, Russell Martin, following his rather blunt statement. When asked if the Prime Minister had spoken to the players, he told the BBC:

"He could have come down, but I'm not really interested in saying hello."

Later, he attempted to retract his words, explaining that it was merely a jest.

"I was just joking with the BBC, saying that Sunak's presence didn't interest me. I'm a football manager, and I'm not sure we have much in common politically.

However, I know he's a fan, and I hope he enjoyed watching the team. I didn't meet him, I'm sure some people were excited about it, but our focus was on the job—winning the match, and we did that."

Southampton finished last in the Premier League last season, resulting in their relegation to the Championship. Currently, in the second division of English football, after 25 rounds, the team holds the third position, trailing the league leaders, Leicester, by eleven points.
