Slot has come out in defence of Liverpool's faded transfer campaign in the summer

Liverpool has been extremely inert in the transfer market over the summer. In fact, the Scousers made one signing - Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, while Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili will only arrive at Anfield next year. However, Liverpool head coach Arne Slot does not consider the transfer campaign a failure.
The Dutchman emphasised that the team didn't need large-scale signings because it has already assembled top-class players:
‘You've been asking me about new players all summer and I kept telling you how many quality players we already have. I think you all knew that. Even if we have a lot of new players coming in, they're not trying to perform well individually, they're trying really hard for the sake of the team.’
Separately, Slot singled out Chiesa, who is not getting a lot of playing time yet:
‘It was good to see that he can already play 60 minutes because he hasn't played that much. In the last three or four months he has hardly played at all. So it's important for him to get more game minutes, which is what he did today,’ Slot stated.
