Arsenal goes all in for Álvarez with blockbuster swap on the table
Arsenal have launched a final push to sign Atlético Madrid and Argentina striker Julián Álvarez. According to SPORT, the Madrid club prefers to sell the forward to the Londoners and has completely ruled out any possibility of him joining Barcelona.
The Gunners are ready to offer €80 million for Álvarez and are willing to include Viktor Gyökeres in the deal. In addition, the Argentine is being offered a salary of around €25 million per season before taxes, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the squad.
However, the move ultimately depends on Álvarez's own desire to return to England. Previously, the Argentine was not keen on playing in the Premier League again after his departure from Manchester City.
The tension is rising off the pitch as well. Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín stated that he wants to keep the forward, but hinted at the influence of Álvarez's entourage. Álvarez’s agent, Fernando Hidalgo, responded on Instagram with a pointed quote: "Never ask a liar why he lied." Now, the fate of one of the summer's most high-profile transfers could be decided in the final days of the window.
