Roberto De Zerbi's first full Premier League campaign at Tottenham has begun with a brutal reality check.

Details: Tottenham were swept aside 3-0 by Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium in the opening round of the 2026/27 Premier League. Keane Lewis-Potter, Vitaly Janelt and Michael Kayode scored for the Bees, while De Zerbi's side failed to find an answer.

Brentford needed only 12 minutes to open the scoring, with Lewis-Potter striking the first blow against the visitors. The situation became even worse for Tottenham in the 33rd minute when Janelt doubled the hosts' advantage and sent Spurs into the break facing a mountain to climb.

Any hopes of a Tottenham comeback disappeared almost immediately after the restart. Kayode made it 3-0 in the 49th minute, completing a nightmare start to the season for De Zerbi. Igor Thiago later missed a penalty, but Brentford had already done more than enough and comfortably protected their three-goal advantage until the final whistle.

The result leaves Tottenham empty-handed after the opening round despite the club's major summer rebuild.
