Set a club record at 20! Archie Gray makes Tottenham history
Archie Gray has become the youngest captain in Tottenham's history in official matches. The 20-year-old midfielder will lead the team out wearing the captain's armband in the Premier League opener against Brentford.
Gray set this record at the age of 20 years and 163 days. The previous youngest official captain for Spurs was the legendary Steve Perryman, who took the armband at 20 years and 260 days old.
Last season, Gray gained significant first-team experience. Across all competitions, he made 35 appearances for Tottenham, scoring twice and providing four assists. Despite his youth, Gray has already shown he can perform at the highest level and has earned the trust of the coaching staff. Now, he has written his name into Tottenham’s history books as the club’s youngest official captain.
For the record, Archie Gray is a Leeds United academy graduate. In the summer of 2024, he joined Tottenham and quickly became an integral part of the squad. The Englishman is capable of playing both as a central midfielder and as a right-back, making him a valuable utility player for the coaching team.
