Brazilian midfielder Oscar has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34. He revealed this decision in an interview with ESPN Brazil.
The player decided to hang up his boots at the end of 2025 for medical reasons related to his heart. The turning point was an incident in November of that year, when Oscar lost consciousness during a training session due to a vasovagal syncope.
Oscar kicked off his career at São Paulo, played for Internacional, and then made the leap to Europe, joining Chelsea. With the London club, he became a Premier League champion, lifted the Europa League trophy, and was a key figure during one of the team's most successful eras. Later, the Brazilian made headlines by moving to Chinese side Shanghai Port (formerly Shanghai SIPG), where he spent a significant part of his career and became one of the league's brightest stars. In 2025, he returned to his boyhood club São Paulo.
Oscar also left his mark with the Brazilian national team, featuring at the World Cup and winning the Confederations Cup. Over the years, he played 556 matches, netted 136 goals, provided 203 assists, and captured 16 trophies.
