Details of the incident with the Moroccan player and his sentence became known
Yesterday, we reported that the midfielder for Queens Park Rangers, competing in the Championship, and the Moroccan national team, Ilias Chair, was sentenced by the Antwerp court to two years of imprisonment, suspended for one year, and a fine of β¬15,000.
The incident occurred during kayaking in France and Belgium in 2020. The Belgian press reports that the conflict involving Chair happened during boarding a bus. While waiting in line, a woman with her family walked past him and demanded to be given priority in boarding, as they had missed their bus.
The woman's behavior turned aggressive, and the situation quickly escalated. She began attacking the player, prompting him to grab a stone and assault the man accompanying the woman. He struck him on the head, causing him to lose consciousness immediately. The consequences were severe, as the man's skull was fractured by two centimeters. He was promptly transported to a hospital in Reims, France, and underwent a lengthy period of rehabilitation in Belgian hospitals.
The Moroccan national team player, born in Belgium, may appeal, but he is currently in custody.
Ilias Chair has been with Queens Park Rangers since 2017. He has played thirteen matches for the Moroccan national team, providing one assist.
