A routine trip to retrieve a ball has turned into a police matter: Krystian Bielik is at the center of an investigation after clashing with a teenage supporter.
Details: Hampshire Police are investigating an incident during Saturday's Championship match at Portsmouth, where Bielik went into the stands to fetch the ball late in the second half with Cardiff trailing 2-0. Video footage appeared to show the defender grabbing a teenage boy around the neck area before the fan appeared to slap him in retaliation and was escorted out with his family.
The accounts of what sparked it differ sharply. Cardiff boss Brian Barry-Murphy insists his player was slapped in the face first and praised how officials handled it, while Portsmouth manager John Mousinho apologized to the Welsh club for the incident. Referee Ben Speedie halted play around the 70th minute before the game resumed and ended 2-0 to Pompey. Bielik, already on a yellow card, escaped in-game punishment, but the FA are reviewing the referee's report and former referees' chief Keith Hackett believes a substantial suspension is possible. The Polish defender only joined Cardiff from the Championship circuit last month and now faces the prospect of a lengthy ban in his first weeks at the club.
