Bodø/Glimt defeated Inter 3–1 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie, and in doing so matched a remarkable record.
Details: As reported by Opta, the Norwegian side became just the fourth team in Champions League history from outside Europe’s top five leagues to win three consecutive matches in the competition.
Notably, all of Bodø/Glimt’s victories in that run have come against clubs from those elite leagues. They have beaten Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and Inter.
Previously, the feat had been achieved by Panathinaikos in 2001–02, Benfica in 2005–06 and Zenit in 2015–16.
Moreover, following their emphatic 3–1 victory over Inter in the play-offs, the Norwegian club officially became the first team from their country to record three straight wins in the European Cup or the UEFA Champions League.
Reminder: Inter Milan legend Cristian Chivu has shared extremely pessimistic forecasts regarding the health of team captain Lautaro Martínez after his injury in the Champions League match against Bodø/Glimt.
