A gentleman among lions! The PSG captain receives a special UEFA honour
The Champions League draw ceremony in Monaco had a touching moment away from the pots and balls.
Details: Marquinhos has been honoured with the UEFA Respect Award during the Champions League league phase draw in Monaco. The PSG captain could not attend the ceremony, so club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi collected the trophy on his behalf, while the Brazilian addressed the audience with a short speech.
Thank you for this trophy, it makes me very proud. I will keep being respectful this year, towards my teammates, the opponent and the referees, Marquinhos said. The award is a fitting recognition for the 32-year-old defender, who became a symbol of fair play back in May: right after the Champions League final victory over Arsenal, instead of celebrating, he was the first to console the distraught Gabriel Magalhães, who had missed the decisive penalty, a gesture that earned admiration around the world.
Marquinhos has been at PSG since 2013 and has long been the face of the Parisian project, lifting back-to-back Champions League titles as captain in 2025 and 2026. It's worth noting that the Brazilian is closing in on 500 appearances for the Parisian club and has already won 34 trophies with PSG, including 11 Ligue 1 titles.
