Lately, there has been much talk about the Manchester City case, which involves accusations of financial fair play violations. However, it was not the reason for the rule changes.

Details: The Premier League recently altered the criteria for applying financial fair play, but not because of Manchester City. According to The Athletic, it was due to Leicester. The "Foxes" managed to evade punishment for failing to comply with financial fair play because the club argued that at the time of the issues, it was not a Premier League club.

However, this loophole has now been closed. Among several new rules concerning clubs that have been promoted and limits on their losses, rule E.49 was added.

It states: "If a club is relegated from the league, then, despite relegation, it must comply with rules E.47 - E.86 as if it were still a club, until it fulfills all its obligations related to the last season as a club."

Most likely, it will not apply to Leicester's case, as in the jurisdiction of the Premier League, the law does not have retroactive effect.

Recall: It was previously reported that legal battles between the Premier League and Manchester City could drag on for years.
