It has long been said that Leicester were very likely to face punishment for breaches of financial fair-play in 2020-2023 after promotion to the Premier League, but the Foxes have surprisingly gone unpunished.
True, the decision of the body of first instance, namely the Premier League was in favour of the league, but Leicester appealed and, as reported by FourFourTwo, won it. The club's arguments were based on the fact that the charges were made when the Foxes were out of the Premier League, meaning they were not a member of the league.
The appeal committee agreed with this. Their written judgement reads:
‘It is not obvious why such a club should be subject to the disciplinary jurisdiction of the Premier League.’
The Premier League was disappointed with the committee's decision and the league believes it will set a precedent for avoiding financial fair play penalties in similar situations.
