After spending a season in the Championship, Leicester City has managed to return to the top flight. The Foxes are set to play their first match tomorrow against Tottenham. However, even before Leicester’s Premier League campaign begins, news has emerged that they could face a points deduction.

The club is under investigation for violating financial expenditure rules. What’s more concerning for the team is that there could be two separate investigations.

One case involves a breach of the Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) during Leicester’s time in the Championship. These regulations are designed to ensure that clubs do not spend more than they earn, safeguarding teams from financial crises and maintaining competitive balance in the league.

Leicester's financial issues may stem from significant expenditures in recent years, both in transfers and player wages.

While the decision from the Independent Commission on this matter is still pending, Leicester could potentially start this season with a points deduction. It's worth recalling that a similar fate befell Everton last season, where points were deducted multiple times, only to be partially restored after appeals.
