The head coach of Senegal's national football team, Aliou Cissé, has reportedly not received his salary for the past six months, as reported by the local publication dsports. This lack of payment has affected the entire coaching staff of the Lions of Teranga.
According to the terms of his contract, Cissé was supposed to earn €30,000 per month.
Interestingly, the Senegalese Football Federation has not yet commented on this issue. Cissé himself seems to downplay its significance, remaining fully focused on the upcoming African Cup of Nations, where the team aims to defend its continental champions' title.
At 47 years old, Cissé, formerly a player for renowned clubs such as PSG, Lille, Montpellier, and Birmingham, has been leading the Lions of Teranga since 2015. Under his guidance, the national team clinched the runner-up position in the 2019 African Cup of Nations and then secured the championship in the 2021 edition. During the 2022 World Cup, Senegal reached the round of 16 but was defeated by England (0:3).
The African Cup of Nations-2023 is scheduled to take place from January 13th to February 11th, 2024, in Ivory Coast.
