Raheem Sterling has replaced the London club. Star winger leaves Chelsea for Arsenal
Last night, the summer transfer window closed in England, with clubs rushing to complete their planned deals before the next opportunity in winter.
Arsenal had been relatively modest in the transfer market, making only a few notable signings, but they decided to make one last move in the final minutes of the window.
The Gunners secured the loan of Raheem Sterling from Chelsea. Arsenal does not have an option to buy, so the winger is expected to return to the Blues at the end of the season.
Rumors of Sterling's possible departure from Chelsea had surfaced earlier in the season. Although the Englishman participated in the team's preseason, he was not included by the new manager in the squad for the season opener against Manchester City. Enzo Maresca openly stated that it would be "difficult for the winger to get playing time."
There was interest in Sterling from Juventus, as well as Crystal Palace and clubs from Saudi Arabia, but the deal was ultimately finalized in London.
Sterling expressed his excitement about joining Arsenal:
"Incredible feeling. I’m thrilled. It’s the perfect move for me.
We were running a bit late, but I was hoping it would happen. I’m very happy we made it.
Everyone can see the journey these guys have been on and their hunger for success. I want to be a part of that unity."
Raheem Sterling joined Chelsea in 2022 from Manchester City for €56.2 million. Last season, he made 43 appearances for the Blues, scoring ten goals and providing eight assists.
