Arsenal may have found their next midfield wildcard.

Details: Arsenal are reportedly leading the race to sign Brighton midfielder Jack Hinshelwood. The 21-year-old Englishman has emerged as a priority target for Mikel Arteta's side, although no official proposal has been confirmed.

According to reports, Arsenal are ahead of Manchester United and Manchester City in the battle for the Brighton academy product. The Gunners have allegedly made contact with Hinshelwood's representatives and could prepare a formal bid.

Brighton are not expected to part with their player cheaply. The Seagulls are said to value Hinshelwood at between £43 million and £51 million, meaning any potential deal would require a major investment from the north London club.

Hinshelwood's versatility is believed to be one of the main reasons for Arsenal's interest. He can operate in central midfield as well as at right-back and left-back, offering Arteta another flexible option across several areas of the pitch.

The transfer remains at the rumour stage, with neither Arsenal nor Brighton having announced negotiations or an agreement. Any move would therefore depend on the clubs reaching terms and the player making a decision on his future.

It is worth noting that Hinshelwood is a Brighton academy graduate and has already made 79 Premier League appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing seven assists.
