The court sided with the French club, but not in the way Nantes had hoped.

Details: According to L'Equipe, today marked the end of the high-profile and scandalous legal battle between French side Nantes and Welsh club Cardiff, who were locked in a dispute over the transfer of the late forward Emiliano Sala.

It is reported that the Commercial Court of Nantes delivered a verdict in favor of Nantes, ordering FC Cardiff City to pay the Welsh club compensation amounting to €480,000.

Emiliano Sala was set to move from Nantes to Cardiff in 2021 for €17 million, but tragically died in a plane crash while flying to Wales to finalize the transfer.

Previously, Cardiff had demanded €122 million from Nantes, arguing that Sala could have brought significant value to the team and potentially led them to the Premier League, which would have earned Cardiff that sum. However, the Nantes court refused to impose such a radical obligation on the French side and instead awarded a much smaller compensation.

Emiliano Sala died on January 21, 2019, in the English Channel. During his career, he also played for clubs such as Bordeaux, Orléans, Caen, and the aforementioned Nantes.
