Jaisen was as candid as possible in this interview.
Details: The portal Soccer Laduma conducted an extensive interview with 29-year-old Marumo Gallants newcomer Jaisen Clifford.
In the interview, Jaisen spoke about his childhood, his first steps in football, his favorite childhood club, as well as his impressions and expectations at his new club:
"I left SuperSport and went to Malta. Then I earned a move to Lithuania, where we won the cup. After that, I played in Portugal for a while. I returned and eventually moved to the Armenian Premier League. I spent two seasons there and then headed to Bulgaria. I'm happy to be back home. Several teams showed interest. I think Gallants had the right project. Gallants moved faster than anyone else, and I appreciated that. I feel like I want to repay them for their belief in me."
The player also addressed rumors about a potential move to Orlando Pirates, which had surfaced in the media more than once:
"I don't know much about it. I read about it in the newspapers. I think there were other teams that were closer than the Pirates. I also feel that when making such a decision, you have to think about your career as a whole. Moving to the Pirates was never part of my plans. We'll see how things turn out in the future. I think the Pirates are fine right now. I don't see myself in that team, but of course, I wouldn't turn down the opportunity if they came calling. But I feel like they're a stable team. You look at yourself as a player and say: 'How would I fit into that system?' But at the same time, I feel we have a strong team at Gallants. We can challenge any side in this league." Clifford said.
Another reason why a move to Orlando Pirates was so problematic is Jaisen's father's love for their arch-rivals, Kaizer Chiefs:
"My father is a huge Chiefs fan. As much as I want to be happy, I want him to be happy too. He played a big role in my career. I think I made the right decision. The reason I became a footballer was watching the Chiefs in the MTN8. Chiefs influenced my decision to play football. The first match I attended was the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium." the 29-year-old forward confessed in an interview with Soccer Laduma.
Jaisen Clifford joined Marumo Gallants this summer as a free agent. He returns to the Betway Championship after 10 years, having left SuperSport United in the 2015/16 season to join Malta's Gudja United.
