Arsenal hosted Bayern Munich in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals.

For the London team, this was their first quarterfinal appearance since 2010, which provided strong motivation to achieve a positive result despite their past struggles against Bayern.

Arsenal approached the match as favorites, considering the contrasting form and results of both teams in 2024.

The beginning of the match lived up to football fans' expectations. Arsenal started stronger and deservedly took the lead in the 12th minute. Bukayo Saka's precise strike into the corner of Manuel Neuer's goal put them ahead. Ben White provided the assist.

Interestingly, this goal marked Arsenal's first in the Champions League quarterfinals since 2010.

However, trouble came just six minutes later as Arsenal conceded due to defensive disorganization, allowing former Arsenal player Serge Gnabry to score. A quarter-hour later, the Emirates fell silent as Bayern earned a penalty, confidently converted by Harry Kane.

Following this, Arsenal's game visibly faltered. In the second half, they pressed against Neuer's goal but failed to create any truly dangerous opportunities until the 75th minute.

Gabriel Jesus skillfully played within the opponent's penalty area and laid the ball off to Leandro Trossard, who restored parity. There were no further goals in this match.

The second leg in Munich will take place next Wednesday, April 17.
