Germany's goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has achieved a historic milestone at the World Cup, stepping onto the pitch in the group stage match against Côte d’Ivoire.
This game marked the 40-year-old shot-stopper's 21st appearance at football's biggest tournament, making him the sole record holder for most World Cup matches played by a goalkeeper in history. With this feat, Neuer surpassed the previous leader—France’s Hugo Lloris, who had 20 World Cup appearances to his name.
It’s worth noting that victory over the African side would guarantee Julian Nagelsmann’s men a spot in the 2026 World Cup knockout stage.
