The first leg of the CAF Champions League final took place in Pretoria, where local side Mamelodi faced Egypt's Pyramids.
From the start, the hosts seized control of the ball and carved out a solid chance: Reiners unleashed a powerful long-range effort, but the goalkeeper made a flying save. The visitors pushed the action away from their own goal and responded with some dangerous counterattacks. Mayele’s strike lacked accuracy, while Adel’s effort was too tame to threaten the keeper.
The start of the second half proved disastrous for the Egyptian team. Sundowns orchestrated a brilliant attack down the right flank, and after a flurry of blocked shots, the ball fell to Lucas Ribeiro. The South African Premier League’s top scorer fired home a classy finish to put his team ahead.
In the closing stages, Mamelodi tried to hold onto their lead, but one of Pyramids’ final attacks paid off. A cross from the left wing was met by El-Karti’s header—1-1.
It’s worth noting that on June 1 in Cairo, these two teams will clash again to crown the continent’s best club.
