A truly disheartening milestone for a club that was once a solid force.
Details: According to the statistics portal Opta, today’s 1-1 draw against Leicester in the 41st round of the English Championship extended Sheffield Wednesday’s winless streak to 36 matches.

With this result, Sheffield Wednesday have equalled Derby County’s infamous record for the longest winless run, which Derby set in the 2007/2008 season.
Now, Sheffield Wednesday stand alongside Derby as the biggest underachievers in English football history. Since the formation of the Football League in 1888, no other team has matched this unwanted feat.
In the 2025/26 season, Sheffield Wednesday were hit with severe sanctions from the English Football League (EFL) for financial violations and debts, resulting in a total deduction of 18 points—a penalty that included an initial 12-point deduction plus an additional 6 points. Currently, the team sits at the bottom of the Championship with minus 5 points and has already been relegated to League One.
