Having joined in September 2026 on a contract running until the end of December, 35-year-old striker is already bidding farewell to San Diego FC.

Cédric Bakambu announced his departure in a post on his social media accounts on Friday 6 November. In his farewell message, The Leopard expressed his regret at not being able to continue his time with the American club. “I would have genuinely loved to continue this journey, but some decisions are beyond our control,” he said.

The 35-year-old did not feature in San Diego FC’s most recent match, although there is still one game left to play in the regular season. He thus leaves the club having scored 5 goals in 9 appearances. His next destination is not yet known.

Whilst waiting to find out more about the next stage of his career, Cédric Bakambu will rejoin the DR Congo national team. He is expected to be part of the Leopards’ squad for the double-header against Sierra Leone, which counts towards matchdays 3 and 4 of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
