A football rivalry has turned into a major media scandal! Tottenham Hotspur have filed a formal complaint with the Premier League after an ESPN Brazil journalist appeared in a video singing an offensive chant about the London club alongside Arsenal supporters.

Details: According to The Times, the complaint concerns João Castelo-Branco, an ESPN Brazil correspondent and openly devoted Arsenal supporter. He recorded himself joining Gunners fans in Brazil in a derogatory song about Tottenham. Spurs questioned whether the journalist should continue covering their matches and interviewing the club's manager and players.

Castelo-Branco subsequently removed the video and apologised directly to Tottenham. He explained that the recording had been intended for a podcast audience and that he was acting in the persona of an Arsenal supporter. Nevertheless, he acknowledged that publishing it was unprofessional and admitted crossing a line. The journalist also recognised that the chant could offend Spurs fans.

Tottenham stressed that their objection was not to Castelo-Branco supporting Arsenal, but to his professional conduct. The Premier League has become involved in discussions with the club and ESPN Brazil. The journalist participated in an online meeting, while Spurs said they would consider his apology during the international break. No official ban has been imposed.

It's worth noting that Tottenham and Arsenal share one of English football's fiercest rivalries, known as the North London derby. The controversy emerged shortly before Spurs' Premier League trip to Leeds on November 7. For now, the journalist's future access to Tottenham remains unresolved.
