A push for Arsenal’s defender! Barcelona target Gunners star in January

Barcelona are considering a move for versatile Arsenal and Ecuador defender Piero Hincapié during the upcoming January transfer window.

Details: According to Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona sporting director Deco has already made initial contact with the 24-year-old’s representatives to discuss the terms of a potential deal. The Catalan giants are looking to capitalize on the South American’s lack of regular playing time at the Emirates, viewing him as a quality reinforcement for both the heart of the defense and the left flank.

However, negotiations promise to be extremely complicated: Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is categorically opposed to letting squad players leave in the middle of the season. The Spanish coach considers squad depth a key factor in the battle for Premier League and Champions League glory, so the Gunners will attempt to block any January offers for Hincapié.

It is worth noting that Piero Hincapié is a regular starter for Ecuador and, before joining Arsenal, won a domestic double in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, lifting both the Bundesliga title and the German Cup.
