A surprise candidate for Old Trafford? Manchester United have their eyes on the Stuttgart coach
Manchester United's search for a possible new manager has taken an unexpected turn! The Red Devils are reportedly impressed by Stuttgart head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, whose work in Germany has attracted attention from several European giants.
Details: On November 6, Manchester United news account mufcmpb reported, citing journalist Miguel Delaney, that Hoeneß is highly rated by the Old Trafford hierarchy. The information comes amid uncertainty over Michael Carrick's position. However, there is no confirmed formal approach, negotiation or agreement with the German coach.
Hoeneß has managed Stuttgart since April 2023, transforming a team threatened by relegation into Champions League contenders. His side finished second in the Bundesliga in 2023/24 and subsequently won the German Cup in 2025. The 44-year-old has earned praise for his attacking approach and ability to develop players without relying on expensive transfers.
Interestingly, United's interest is not entirely new. German media reported that the club approached Hoeneß in 2024 before extending Erik ten Hag's contract, but he preferred to remain in Stuttgart. His name has since been linked with Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City. For now, he remains committed to his current team.
It's worth noting that Hoeneß is under contract with Stuttgart until 2028. Manchester United have not announced a decision to replace Carrick, who recently ended a nine-match winless run with a 3:2 Champions League victory over Roma. Admiration for Hoeneß does not necessarily mean an appointment is imminent.
Reminder: Bombshell at Old Trafford! Manchester United approach a World Cup-winning coach.
