South African coach Fadlu Davids has officially been appointed the new head coach of Tanzanian club Young Africans.

Details: The 45-year-old coach replaces compatriot Mankoba Mngqithi, who was dismissed after a defeat in the fiercely contested derby and a subsequent drop of points in the national league.

For Davids, the appointment marks a high-profile return to Tanzanian football, where he previously managed Young Africans’ arch-rivals, Simba. The coach arrived in Dar es Salaam with his staff and has already begun work with the team, holding initial consultations with the club’s management.

The new head coach has been tasked with cutting the gap in the title race and preserving the club’s dominant position both domestically and on the international stage. Young Africans’ management are counting on Davids’ extensive experience in African club competitions to help the team perform more successfully in the CAF Champions League group stage.

After 10 rounds, Young Africans sit second in the league with 25 points, five points behind leaders Simba.
