“There are no words…” Messi breaks silence after tragedy that shook Spanish football
Lionel Messi has joined the football world in mourning following a devastating tragedy in Spain.
Details: The Inter Miami captain paid tribute to Jesús de Miguel Alameda, the Tenerife striker who tragically died on November 3 at the age of 30. Messi shared a black-and-white photograph of the footballer on his Instagram Story, accompanied by a heartbreaking message:
“There are no words… My condolences and lots of strength to all his family and friends. May he rest in peace.”
The tragedy occurred on November 2 during Tenerife's Spanish second-division clash against FC Andorra. Deep into stoppage time, goalkeeper Jesús Owono rushed out to challenge for a long ball and collided violently with De Miguel near the halfway line. The striker collapsed on the pitch, forcing the referee to abandon the match.
Medical personnel provided emergency assistance before transporting the forward to hospital, where he remained in intensive care. Despite the doctors' efforts, Tenerife officially confirmed his death the following morning.
Messi was among numerous prominent football figures who expressed their condolences to the player's family. It is worth noting that UEFA has announced a minute of silence at all its matches this week in memory of Jesús de Miguel.
