Inter head coach Cristian Chivu is personally highly interested in Richards' qualities, valuing his physical attributes and experience in the Premier League. The Nerazzurri are looking to explore the possibility of a move in January in order to address their need for defensive depth at centre-back through to the end of the current season.

If a deal with the London club cannot be reached in January, Inter are prepared to postpone the signing until the summer. The potential expiry of the defender's contract would allow the Milan giants to consider bringing Richards in as a free agent.

In the 2026/27 season, Richards has made 14 appearances, scoring one goal. Transfermarkt value the player at €28 million.
