Arab Clubs Dominate CAF Confederation Cup Group Stage
The second round of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage concluded last night, highlighting the dominance of Arab clubs across all four groups, with Zamalek SC and Al Masry flying the flag for Egyptian football.
Algeria’s CS Constantine tops Group A with a perfect six points, leaving Angola’s Bravos do Maquis and Tanzania’s Simba SC to share second place with three points each. Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien, surprisingly, sit at the bottom without a point after a shocking 3-2 loss to Bravos, further complicating their chances of advancing.
In Group B, RS Berkane continues its impressive form following last season’s final appearance, leading with six points. They are followed by Mali’s Stade Malien with four points. Angola’s Petro Luanda holds third with one point, while South Africa’s Stellenbosch FC remains without a point.
Group C sees USM Alger at the summit, tied on four points with Ivory Coast’s ASEC Mimosas but ahead on goal difference. Senegal’s Jaraaf and Botswana’s Orapa United trail behind with a point each.
Group D is tightly contested, with Zamalek securing the top spot after a 2-2 draw against Nigeria’s Enyimba, thanks to goals from Seifeddine Jaziri and Omar Faraj. Al Masry follows in second place on goal difference, with both teams on four points. Enyimba and Mozambique’s Black Bulls remain at the bottom with a point each, struggling to keep up with the Egyptian clubs.
As the tournament progresses, Arab clubs have established themselves as strong contenders for the title, demonstrating their competitive edge on the continental stage.
