A legendary number! Kaizer Chiefs hand new signing the shirt of a club icon
Elias Mokwana's dream move to Kaizer Chiefs comes with a special responsibility.
Details: Following the official announcement of the 27-year-old South African winger's arrival on November 4, new details of his move have emerged. According to The South African, Mokwana will wear the iconic number 14 jersey, previously worn by club legend Siphiwe Tshabalala. The former Bafana Bafana star remains one of the most recognizable figures in the club's history.
Mokwana reportedly had several options on the table, receiving interest from clubs in the South African Premier Soccer League and abroad. However, the winger ultimately chose Kaizer Chiefs, fulfilling a childhood dream of representing the team he grew up supporting.
Interestingly, this is not the first time the Soweto giants have pursued the player. Chiefs were interested in signing him back in 2024, but the transfer never materialized. Two years later, the club finally secured his signature on a free transfer following his departure from Tunisian football.
It is worth noting that Mokwana spent the 2025/26 season on loan in Saudi Arabia, making 24 Saudi Pro League appearances. According to Kaizer Chiefs, the winger has also earned 11 senior international caps for South Africa.
