After CAF Champions League exit, several Mamelodi Sundowns players could leave as early as January
Mamelodi Sundowns could undergo major squad changes during the winter transfer window. The trigger was their sensational exit from the CAF Champions League: the reigning champions were unable to overcome Angola’s Wiliete, drawing 1-1 at home after a goalless result in the first leg.
Former Sundowns defender Hilton Jordan believes the club could send some fringe players out on loan in January. In his view, the core of the team will remain intact, but footballers lacking regular playing time may look for other opportunities to continue their careers.
Some players may go out on loan in January, but the core of the team will remain. They still have the Carling Cup, the Betway Premiership and the Nedbank Cup, Jordan said in an interview with KickOff.
The elimination was a major blow to the club’s ambitions. Sundowns have missed out on the CAF Champions League group stage for the first time in 11 years. What is more, the team now has no opportunity to continue its campaign in the CAF Confederation Cup.
