Incredible run! Orlando Pirates set a club record after beating Kaizer Chiefs
Orlando Pirates continue to make history in South African football. After beating Kaizer Chiefs 2-1 in the Soweto Derby, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side extended their unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership to 22 matches. During that spell, the Buccaneers have recorded 17 wins and five draws. It is the longest such run in the club’s history in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) era.
It is particularly symbolic that the run began back in February 2026 with a commanding 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs. Now, a win over their fierce rivals has helped the team extend this historic streak.
There are other impressive numbers, too: Orlando Pirates have won their last seven league matches in a row, while they have triumphed in six of their last seven Soweto derbies. In addition, the club have maintained a 100 percent home-win record this season.
After the derby, the Buccaneers temporarily moved to the top of the table with 25 points. However, Mamelodi Sundowns later defeated Durban City to reclaim first place, moving one point clear of Pirates while having played one more match.
