Six minutes of madness! Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs trade blows in explosive Soweto Derby. VIDEO
The Soweto Derby has erupted into a thrilling exchange of goals, with Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs trading blows in the space of just six minutes.
Details: Orlando Pirates struck first in the ninth-round Betway Premiership clash on Saturday, October 31. In the 24th minute, Yanela Mbuthuma opened the scoring at FNB Stadium, celebrating his first-ever goal in a Soweto Derby. However, the hosts' advantage lasted just six minutes. In the 30th minute, Pule Mmodi found the net for Kaizer Chiefs, bringing the score level at 1-1.

The rapid exchange of goals has added even more drama to one of South African football's biggest rivalries. Mbuthuma, who started in the Pirates attack, gave Abdeslam Ouaddou's side the perfect breakthrough, but Mmodi's equaliser quickly restored parity for Fernando Da Cruz's team.
Both clubs entered the encounter unbeaten in the league this season. Orlando Pirates arrived with 22 points from eight matches, occupying second place, while Kaizer Chiefs sat fifth with 14 points. The two sides had also secured convincing 3-0 victories in the Carling Knockout Cup earlier in the week.
It's worth noting that the previous Soweto Derby, played on April 26, 2026, also finished 1-1. On that occasion, Mmodi scored for Kaizer Chiefs in the 62nd minute before Kamogelo Sebelebele equalised for Orlando Pirates in the 75th.
