For the first time in 909 days, Barcelona will play a home match at Camp Nou. The clash with Athletic marks not only a symbolic return but also a pivotal step towards the club's financial recovery, as Barça undertakes the largest infrastructure project in its history.
For now, the stadium will open in a limited format: capacity will be 45,401 seats—less than half of the future 105,000. The return to the iconic venue is accompanied by an ambitious revenue-boosting strategy, which brings higher ticket and season pass prices. Club president Joan Laporta emphasized that these prices are a temporary necessity until the stadium's capacity increases.
The financial aspect of the project is absolutely critical. The 2025/26 season budget already includes €226 million in stadium revenue—€51 million more than Montjuïc brought in. Achieving these figures will only be possible after capacity is increased to 62,500 seats (1C license expected by year’s end), and then to the final 105,000.
As for the timeline, the official completion of construction is scheduled for June 2026. However, the latest management forecasts are: full operation by summer 2027, and installation of the permanent roof by summer 2028. Additionally, the total cost of reconstruction is estimated at around €1.5 billion.
