It has recently come to light that during his vacation in Sweden, Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé has been accused of sexual assault. Official authorities have denied these rumors, stating that the Frenchman is not a suspect in this matter.

In Sweden, the next steps that the police may take following a woman's complaint about the alleged rape are being considered.

Details: The question Sweden is currently grappling with is, what will happen to Mbappé? Media outlets have consulted several Swedish legal experts to clarify the subsequent steps in the investigation, and here’s what they explained.

According to Aftonbladet, in order for the investigation not to be closed anytime soon, the prosecutor must gather more evidence.

“So far, the suspicion is only justified, which is the lowest level of suspicion. It must be based on probable cause. Otherwise, it will be difficult to utilize the available tools since the suspect is in another country,” they explain.

If more evidence emerges, the next step in the investigation could be a possible interrogation of Mbappé, as explained by Sven-Erik Alhjem, a former prosecutor in Sweden, in the newspaper Expressen.

“The interrogation does not necessarily have to take place in Sweden; it can also be conducted there (in Spain) through an agent.

This is a justified suspicion, and this is where the prosecutor assesses the strength of the suspicion. This makes their role very important, especially considering that (Mbappé) has made a statement on social media, clearly indicating that he does not admit to committing a crime,” said the former prosecutor.

Kylian Mbappé's profile: songs, nationality, religion, earnings, boots, scandals.

Only after a possible hearing will the prosecutor be able to assess whether to close the case or proceed with it legally, as explained in Expressen. Ulrika Rogland, a lawyer and former judge and prosecutor, elaborates on how a citizen of the EU suspected of rape is treated in Sweden.

“If a person does not surrender voluntarily, they must first be arrested, and extradition to Sweden is possible. There are options using a European arrest warrant. If Sweden issues it, it will be reviewed by the judicial system of the country where the suspect resides,” she stated in the Swedish newspaper.
