The seat under the FIFA president is wobbling like never before.

Details: As reported by talkSPORT, UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) are in talks about whether to call a vote of no confidence against FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

According to the source, UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin and European Club Association chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi are ready to lead the campaign to remove Infantino if he refuses to step down voluntarily or withdraw his candidacy from the next election.

The main trigger for the unrest among the leading football unions was the collapse of FIFA’s controversial plan to sell commercial rights to the World Cup to private American investors. The heads of the continental confederations accused the Swiss official of lacking transparency and making backroom decisions without consulting the football community.

To initiate an extraordinary FIFA Congress and put the vote of no confidence on the agenda, the opposition confederations will need the support of at least one fifth of the 211 national member associations.

It’s worth noting that 56-year-old Gianni Infantino has served as FIFA president since February 2016. He was re-elected unopposed in 2019 and 2023, and the next presidential election is scheduled for 2027.
