“I don’t think I’m Cameroon’s heroine,” Michaely Bihina remains humble despite her feat at WAFCON 2026
Despite her outstanding performance and her award for best goalkeeper of the tournament, the Cameroonian emphasises the collective nature of this historic victory for the Indomitable Lionesses.
One of the key architects of Cameroon’s victory at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Michaely Bihina reflected on the Indomitable Lionesses’ journey throughout the tournament. In an interview with L’Equipe, the Cameroonian goalkeeper emphasised the team’s collective effort despite her individual feat of keeping four clean sheets and being named the tournament’s best goalkeeper.
“I don’t think I’m Cameroon’s heroine, because there were 26 of us warriors. It’s a team effort, so I prefer to see it that way and carry on in the same vein, always putting the team first.
“I did my job: defending, giving the team confidence. I feel honoured. But I’d rather not see it that way, because that would stop me from working even harder.
“I’d rather remain the little Michaely that I am, who carries on working quietly and always gives her best whenever the country needs me.”
