Samuel Eto’o reacts to the Indomitable Lionesses’ historic victory at WAFCON
The president of the Cameroonian Football Federation reflected on the years of hard work and the difficulties faced in the run-up to this triumph.
Cameroon’s victory at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations has sparked widespread jubilation across the country. Upon their return to Yaoundé on Monday 17 August, the Indomitable Lionesses were welcomed as heroes in the Cameroonian capital.
Amidst this wave of joy, the reaction of the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Samuel Eto’o, did not go unnoticed. He delivered a moving speech as he welcomed the African champions.
The former captain of the Indomitable Lions explained that he had long felt saddened by the lack of recognition despite the efforts made. For Samuel Eto’o, victory at the 2026 WAFCON finally came at the right time, after several years of waiting and hard work.
“For several years, I was sad because I told myself that we were putting in a lot of effort but receiving few rewards. But God, three times holy, gives what he wants, when he wants. We set off from Yaoundé in complete obscurity. Nobody believed in us.”
