The scandal surrounding Gianni Infantino's failed plan is snowballing, with more and more unsavory details emerging.

Details: According to The Telegraph, one of the hidden key figures behind FIFA's project was 58-year-old Mary Erdoes—the head of asset and wealth management at JPMorgan Chase. The publication reports that she was in charge of the bank’s efforts to find investors for the sale of a 20% stake in FIFA’s new commercial venture. The plan aimed to attract around $4.2 billion in investment.

Now, however, Erdoes herself is under serious pressure due to her previous professional ties to the late financier Jeffrey Epstein. According to published documents, JPMorgan kept Epstein as a client until 2013—five years after his 2008 conviction. It’s also reported that in 2012, Erdoes sent Epstein birthday greetings.

At the same time, Erdoes has never faced any accusations of involvement in Epstein’s crimes. JPMorgan has previously publicly defended its top executive, and the bank cut ties with Epstein in 2013.

The story is especially painful for FIFA against the backdrop of the already raging crisis around the FIFA Forward Enterprise project itself. Infantino had planned to sell investors a 20% stake in the organization’s major tournament commercial structure, but after fierce resistance from football confederations, the idea was scrapped. UEFA, CONCACAF, and AFC later publicly accused the FIFA president of deception and making key decisions without proper consultation.

Reminder: Are Infantino's days numbered? Federations demand his resignation!
