Sergio Ramos will leave Mexican side Monterrey, leaning toward a return to Europe, where he intends to continue his career if a worthy offer arrives.
According to AS, two key factors are influencing the legendary defender’s decision: his family’s comfort and the chance to rejoin the Spanish national team for the 2026 World Cup. Ramos believes that regular playing time in a European club and the higher level of competition could convince Luis de la Fuente to call him up to the national squad.
It’s worth noting that Aymeric Laporte has already taken a similar route, moving from Saudi Arabia back to Athletic Club and returning to the national team’s radar. For Ramos, who will turn 40 in March, his last appearance for Spain dates back to 2021—he missed Euro 2020, the 2022 World Cup, and Euro 2024.
