On the night of Sunday, June 15, the Club World Cup kicks off in the United States. The tournament opener will see Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami face off against Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Ahead of the opening whistle, Dailysports breaks down how much African clubs stand to earn from this high-stakes competition.

What is the prize pool for the Club World Cup?

The total prize fund is an unprecedented $1 billion—making this the most lucrative FIFA club competition in history. The champion could walk away with up to $125 million. The prize money will be divided into two parts:

  • $475 million—based on sporting results;
  • $525 million—guaranteed participation fees.

How much is Mamelodi Sundowns guaranteed to earn?

The largest participation bonuses will go to European clubs, while the smallest will be awarded to the representative from Oceania. Mamelodi Sundowns are guaranteed to receive $9.55 million. This applies not only to the South African club, but also to Al Ahly, Wydad, and Espérance.

Breakdown of guaranteed payments:

  • Clubs from Europe—from $12.81 million to $38.19 million
  • Clubs from South America—$15.21 million
  • Clubs from North America, Asia, and Africa—$9.55 million each
  • Oceania representative—$3.58 million

How much can the Club World Cup winner earn?

As mentioned above, the world champion could take home up to $125 million, but only if it’s one of Europe’s football giants. If a club from another confederation triumphs, the payout will be slightly smaller.

Looking at potential earnings based on results, each group stage victory will net a club $2 million, while a draw brings in $1 million.

Financial bonuses in the knockout stage:

  • Round of 16—$7.5 million
  • Quarterfinals—$13.125 million
  • Semifinals—$21 million
  • Final—$30 million
  • Winning the final—$40 million

Remember, the tournament will run from June 15 to July 13, 2025, in the USA. The new format makes this competition massive—not only in terms of football drama but also from a financial perspective.
