The president of Brazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, poked fun at Neymar during a meeting with citizens, dubbing him the "first remote national team footballer."
Details: Lula was talking with a child and asked who he thought was the best Brazilian footballer at the moment. The boy picked Neymar, and the president couldn't resist making a witty comment.
"Neymar? But he's not even playing right now!" Lula exclaimed. He then added that he'd seen a joke online claiming Neymar had become the world's first player called up to the national team "on remote."
The president emphasized that the phrase wasn't his own invention, but something he genuinely spotted online. Lula kept the jokes coming, quipping that if things go on like this, Brazil might one day need to assemble a national team with artificial intelligence and field "11 Pelés."
The reason for the irony is Neymar's situation at the 2026 World Cup. The forward was included in Brazil's squad, but due to injury, missed the opening match against Morocco, which ended 1-1.
Reminder: We previously reported on whether Neymar will be included in Brazil's squad for the match against Haiti.
