Agüero and Rooney left behind! Haaland sets new Manchester derby record
Erling Haaland fired Manchester City to victory over Manchester United in the fourth round of the Premier League and achieved another impressive milestone. The match at Old Trafford finished 1-0, with the Norwegian forward scoring the only goal.
For Haaland, it was already his ninth goal in Premier League matches against Manchester United. As a result, the City striker moved to the top of the all-time scoring charts for the Manchester derby in the Premier League.
According to OptaJoe, Haaland has scored nine goals in just eight matches against United. He moved ahead of the legendary Sergio Agüero, who scored eight goals in 13 appearances, as well as Wayne Rooney, who netted eight times in 21 derbies.
Haaland's winning goal was also the subject of considerable controversy. The Norwegian found the net after an incident in which many believed there could have been an offside. However, VAR reviewed the moment and confirmed that the forward was onside. Evidence was later published showing that the Manchester United defender's foot had kept Haaland in a legal position.
